About Us

We're here for you

A consumer directed company

Breakthrough In Home Service is a Consumer Directed Service Company and we have recently opened an In Home Service department. Breakthrough is a company that prides itself in helping others. Breakthrough In Home Service has been helping those in need since 2012. The founder of the company, Michelle Reid-Waller, has been in the medical field since 1996.

Our company believes there is healing in loved ones helping with daily chores. We know that if we live long enough our bodies will begin to fail us, but there is a healing breakthrough in the help of family and community.

Consumer Directed Service (CDS) means that consumers will have more control over how their services are provided. When hiring an attendant, you can often hire family (except your spouse), neighbors or friends to work for you. You can obtain a backup service attendant for those times when your regular service attendant is not available. We also do an extensive background check through the Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) on all attendants for safety precautions.

In Home Service (IHS) means a skilled professional from the company will be sent to provide services in the comfort of the client’s home. Services can include personal care, homemaker chores, advanced personal care, respite, and skilled nursing visits and are just some of the many services that can be provided.

  • What is in home care?

Home care is the original way that people cared for each other while they were sick. Before hospitals, nursing homes and doctors offices existed, in home care was how people received assistance. Throughout the years as healthcare matured most of the attention went to institutional care, in home care still remains and essential part of healthcare that serves millions of Americans. • How do I know when my family member is no longer safely living at home?

It is tough to know when one of your family members is not safe to live at home anymore. It is important to have a system put in place to avoid a crisis, such as personal emergency response systems, home health aides, meals on wheels, adult day services, telephone check-in services, and volunteer programs can all keep your family member safe. Additionally, it may happen that your family member will resist any type of change in the environment such as putting up new lighting, modifying the bathroom with grab bars or bath chairs. Respect this and start slow. Allow your family member to vent without judgement. If your family member is not cognitively impaired and refuses, then simply back off for the time being and give it time, but don't give up. • What is respite care?

Respite care refers to services that are used by family caregivers that give them a break. These services are offered through local organizations such as social services, volunteer programs and state-funded programs. It can also refer to a short-term stay in a nursing home for the family member while the caregiver takes a break.

  • How can I get assistance from other family members?

Sometimes family caregivers may feel abandoned by other family members, usually other siblings, the people they expected to help. How do you get your other siblings to help? Simply recognize that people are caregivers in different ways. Your brother may not like the idea of seeing your mother in a nursing home, suggest that he call her every Sunday, or write letters. Ask him to manage her financial affairs. You cannot force them to help you, but be specific in your requests. If your siblings refuse your requests for help, simply accept it, but do not accept the idea you are alone. You can always look to the community for help and support.
